The report shows that nearly half of the total production value in the Mekong Delta region is relatively resilient to harsh climate phenomena, including fish farming and production, indoor and greenhouse production. , produced during the dry season in irrigated, non-coastal areas.
However, the remaining agricultural and fishery production models are still vulnerable to climate risks. Among them, the production value of up to 6.8 billion USD is suitable for applying index insurance.
This report also analyzes the agricultural landscape in the Mekong Delta, highlighting rice, mango, durian, and shrimp as the most suitable commodities for index insurance due to the sensitivity of these sectors to climate change. climate risks. In addition, there are also dragon fruits and oranges.
According to this report, index insurance can be an important solution in minimizing climate risks, creating a necessary protection network for farmers in the Mekong Delta from the impacts of extreme climate phenomena.
